Safety Considerations for Motorized
Hangar Doors and Industrial Doors:

Large commercial doors have special safety considerations that should be taken into account as a part of the overall door safety system. Model #MU## is designed for use on doors over 2 inches thick and are custom manufactured to required length. Our Sensing Edges are designed to provide a safe means of stopping and reversing a door’s motion. Typically powered by just 24 volts, electrically activated Sensing Edges are attached to the leading edge of the door. When touch activated, the internal sensor sends a signal to the motor to stop and/or reverse motion.

For doors larger than 2 inches thick, the MU style can be manufactured up to 20”(h) x 20”(d) x desired length. Our MU extra large Sensing Edges can be found on hangar doors at US military installations throughout the world.

Common installations for the MU extra large Sensing Edges can be found in airports and mining operations.

Safety Standards and Codes for Motorized
Commercial and Industrial Doors:

Effective August 29, 2010, Underwriters Laboratories required that all commercial door operators bearing the UL label are required to be installed with a continuously monitored safety device.

Since 2009, the International Building Code (IBC-2009) has required compliance with the current UL325 safety standard.
